As most of you know, Katrina spent 10 days in the hospital in mid-November and was diagnosed with systemic lupus erthymatosus. Lupus, or SLE, is an auto-immune disease which results when the body's immune system gets confused and starts attacking it's own healthy organs and tissues, resulting in inflammation. Lupus is treatable but there is no cure. Thanks to medical advances over the last few decades, Katrina has a very good chance of managing her disease and living a mostly normal life.

Every year Lupus Canada has a fundraiser called Walk a Block for Lupus. This year the event is occuring on May 10. DH and I have both registered and hope to raise $500 to support lupus research. In Ontario there are large organized events, but here in Alberta individual teams are left to organize their own walk. We have decided to walk 10 km in Bowness Park. This will be dead easy for DH as he is currently training to run a marathon and routinely RUNS 10k, but it is going to be a bit of a stretch for me. I only found about this last week, so I have a mere 3 months to prepare. Maybe next year we'll attempt something more ambitious. ;)

If you would like to support us in our endeavor, either through a pledge or by joining the team, please visit lupuscanada.org and click on the Walk a Block logo in the upper left corner. We can be found under our surname, Ulicki, or our team name which is Calgary Pediatric. We are also looking for other support including people to watch Katrina and Ryan (at the park) while we walk, sit at a brochure table, or lend us a double chariot stroller.

Thanks in advance for your support. I know many of you support your own personally important causes, and anything, no matter how small, is very much appreciated!

Okay, I'll see how the child minding volunteer recruitment goes, and if we end up needing the chariot I'll contact you in early May.

I would love to help out one way or another. Is this Mother's Day weekend? If so, I believe we are going to Edmonton but I will donate and if you need fundraising ideas let me know.

Hey Christine, maybe I will walk with you. I have the same type of Lupus as your daughter. Can you give me some more info on joining you? How do I go about raising money and anything else I need to know?

Thanks
