So I've decided, since I can't decide on a new hairstyle/cut, to just shave my head. It's just hair anyway!

My Goal: $1000.

Half the donations will go to Bustin' Mamas for the Weekend to End Breast Cancer and the other half will go to the Kid's Help Phone.

Deadline for Donations will be Friday, August 15th at 9AM. I will then, :crossfing: hopefully have a shaving head party that weekend sometime.

Please donate to these two worthy causes through paypal: emayer@parrotplaypen.com If you don't have paypal and wish to donate, please PM me and we'll figure something else out.

Bustin' Mama's could please post below with information about your worthy cause. I will add more about Kid's Help Phone a little later.

Thank you for your support!:D

Did You Know...

...that before the Weekend to End Breast Cancer,
approximately $300,000 was allocated to breast cancer
research annually. Now, in just 3 years, over $17
MILLION has been raised for research, prevention and
screening, equipment and patient programs.

Did you know...

that Kid's Help Phone is Canada's only toll-free, 24-hour, bilingual and anonymous phone counselling, referral and Internet service for children and youth. Every day, professional counsellors provide immediate, caring support to young people in urban and rural communities across the country.

The service is completely, anonymous and confidential - they don't trace calls, they don't use call display. You don't even have to tell them your name if you don't want to.

This is a fundraiser for both charities. Other's are welcome to shave their head with me, if you realize that I'm doing this for two charities, not just one.

Thank you.

Just a quick update! I'm so excited. I've been in contact with the owner (Alex Solano) & past boss, of SaltnPepper Mexican Restaurant who also owns all the rides and concession at Bowness Park.

My plan is to have a family picnic August 9th at Bowness Park. Alex has promised me something. He's looking into something at Bowness and his supplier through SaltnPepper.

I also have an idea that, if you wish, you will be able to shave part of my head. Thus making this a little more interactive.. :D

I just need to "borrow" someone's razor. :dunno:

My plan is to have a family picnic next Saturday at Bowness Park. That's August 9th!

I do, however, still need someone to confirm with me that they can lend a razor for this event. I'm still accepting donations and will be accepting them until the end of August. However... If you are the highest donator, you will get the first shave!

Please donate! These are two great causes.

I should take some time to explain to you why I have chosen the charities I have. Some of you may think that I just chose WEBC because you wanted me to. But that's not my reason.

So let me explain myself... :D
When I was 5 months pregnant (December 2005) with Ava my mother told me that my Grandma had Breast Cancer. It was quite a shock to me. My Grandma and I have never really been close, but still knowing that family member of yours had Cancer is not happy times, especially wilst pregnant. At the time my grandparents live in BC. My Grandma always made illnesses to be no big thing. Because they lived on the island Grandma had to go to Vancouver for treatment and stay a couple days. Fortunately they caught it at it's early stages and were able to treat it without Chemotherapy. The following summer my grandparents moved to Medicine Hat and then to High River. She was monitored to make sure it has not come back and to my knowledge she is in remission. Because of her age, Cancer is not uncommon but it is scary. My mother has had several benign tumors removed and yearly cists drained. She's had yearly mammograms for over 20 years now and every time they take a biopsy of a tumor there is always that scare that it could be cancerous. I recently asked my mother if she would participate in next years WEBC but she has severe plantar's faciaitis and would not be able to do the walk. Perhaps another year I will do it myself in support of my mom, Grandma and what may be to come for me. Right now I am not prepared in my life to make that decision.

Please donate in support of WEBC in hopes that we can find a REAL cure for this terrible disease.

I will explain my reasoning for Kids Help Phone at another time.

You can make a donation to be by cash, cheque, or paypal... :) Or email money transfer.

Here's Part II of why I'm doing this in support of The Kid's Help Phone...

If I had only known as a child/teenager that I could just call a number and get some help... if only I had known, I think my life would have been a little happier at times. I suffered from low self-esteem for the longest time in school. I've always been the shortest one and was quite (and still can be at times) naive. I'd usually make one friend in school and they would totally use me. I was often bullied. I had rocks thrown at me, called names, gum put in my hair, my phone number spread to others, rumours spread, was hit, slapped, kicked, prank called, textbooks slammed over my head... just to name a few things. It wasn't until that a bully pretended she was a friend of mine as a prank that my mother really woke up. She always tried to tell me to just tell them that it wasn't nice to do such and such... which never resolved the issue. In Grade 9 I carried my jackknife to school every day and punched a girl in the head into the bus window. I was surely a cry for help with nobody to come. I'd say stupid things when people would call me a Hoe, and tell them I like being a garden tool, which surely was a bad thing to say to a bully...
Don't get me wrong, I've led a happy life with lots of support through my family in terms of advocating for my education. I just feel that if perhaps I had seen a poster at school about Kids Help Phone I would have called them and gotten some support some how.

DH and I have talked about this before. We hope that if our children can't talk to us about issues in their lives, we hope they would call Kids Help Phone or have another source for help. Kids can't always talk to their parents. Some things are just too hard. Sometimes you just don't want to "hear" what they have to say.

I'm sure we've all been in this kind of predicament and I'm sure we've all wished we could have changed things in our lives. I will really emphasize to my kids that if they need to talk to some one they should call. University Students call out of stress! Where else can they go?

Please donate to this worthy cause! The more we can donate to them the more advertising they can put in schools to help kids who need the help! We can't always be there for our kids, we can try, but sometimes they need help elsewhere.
